One reason you should sell all that you have and buy the truth

Published on January 14, 2020 Sell all you have and buy the truth. Nothing will set you free other than the truth. Ran away from those who don’t like to tell you the truth, under the pretext of “loving and protecting you.” If you are not operating in the truth you are doomed! Will you set your compass to go south when your desired destination is north? Then why do you seek, “half-truths” when your eternal destiny is on the line? Why do you believe lies when your health is at stake? Your doctor told you that you should do something about your health, and you think that you have time? It is great to convince yourself that your feelings and past experience are going to serve as your guide. You

How to overcome self-pity

Published on January 11, 2020 Come on! Why are you thinking as if what you are going through is unique to you? Maybe you are thinking that I will be telling you that you are justified for feeling sorry for yourself. Why should I lie to you? What will I profit if I contributed to making your condition more deplorable? If you want me to tell you what you want to hear, then you will be disappointed. In 2009 I was laid off in the oil and gas industry. The economy was bad and oil prices plummeted. The issue is not that I was laid off. My greatest challenge was my immigration status. Being an international worker without a work permit meant that I could not get another job. Not only was it almost

One reason why your health is your most important asset

Many people take their health for granted. They think that they can eat anyhow, drink, smoke, and abuse their bodies with impunity. After all other people are doing it and it seems nothing is wrong with them. Not too long ago somebody said that their grandmother smoked all her life and lived to be more than eighty. The point this person was making is that there was no point in making any lifestyle changes. Some say, “After all what will be will be!” If your genes have been programmed for you to live long and healthy that is going to be your lot. On the other hand, if you are predisposed to die young nothing can change it. This type of reasoning is devoid of personal responsibility and seems

One easy way to exercise regularly

Published on January 7, 2020 I was running this morning on day seven of our 100-day clean eating and challenge and this thought about the easiest way to exercise came to me. After exercising regularly for more than a decade it has occurred on me that exercise is HARD. My hope has been that after all these years, exercising early in the morning will get easier with each passing day. Well, this has not been the case. From my experience, I have to pull myself out each day and remind myself that if I do not take care of my body nobody will do it for me. Over the years I have come to the realization that it is me and me alone that has to eat right and work out regularly. Please don’t get me wrong

How to achieve all your 2020 goals

What is your target? What is that you are trying to achieve in 2020? Do you have a target? Do you know what you are trying to hit? Do you have a strategy? Are you having a proven system that will deliver what you need? Who are your team members? I hope I have not lost you by asking too many questions. This morning during my run, I was meditating on what to write and encourage somebody today. The more I thought about it the more I realized that what has kept me and my wife exercising for 10 years can be summed up in one word HABIT. We are an ordinary couple who after many failed attempts finally figured out how to exercise, consistently, persistently and regularly. We exercise five times a we

On this day I said I do

On this day in 2000, I said,” I do.” It was a step of faith and for 19 years we have experienced God’s blessings in many different ways. It has been an amazing journey that brought us all the way from Cameron to the United States of America. Before I said, I do, I had to propose to my wife. This bold step was taken in 1996 while I was an undergraduate student at the University of Buea. It took more than courage and boldness for a year one student to propose to get married. While this may not appear to be a big deal, it was one of the most daring things I have ever done. When you are raised in a culture where you have to pay a dowry to get married and most students can’t work and go to school

There is nothing special about the first of the year

Published on January 1, 2020 Last year you might have declared some new year resolutions or set SMART goals. There was a lot of excitement as you looked forward to executing these goals. Then you surprised yourself because the gym membership that you bought made you go to the gym during the month of January. You promised yourself that you were going to stick to the program, but by mid-February, you ran out of gas. The simple reasoning being that you just did not feel like pushing yourself too hard, because let’s face it. The exercises were hard, and you thought things will get easier with each passing day. Yet you realized that you had to push yourself each day to keep up with the program. T

Instead of SMART Goals do this

Published on January 1, 2020 If you are into goal setting and new year resolutions, you must have heard about SMART goals. Instead of just having a wish list of what you desire to happen during the year, it is advisable to make sure that your goals are SMART. In other words, the goals have to be specific, measurable, attainable, relevant, and time-based. While SMART goals work for a while and under some circumstances, it is going to require more than SMART goals to deliver sustainable and lasting results. Many set these SMART goals in January, and by February, they have failed. We know SAMRT goals are not as SMART as they claim to be because many are still not able to break the different add

Forget about new year resolutions

Published on January 1, 2020 There is a rush to set up new year resolutions because many people believe that these resolutions will make their new year successful. Their intentions are right, but it takes more than good intentions to get results. Just because you have the desire to do the right thing does not mean that you have the right system and strategy to achieve what you desire. Some common new year resolutions are; I will drink less alcohol this year. I will take better care of my health this year. I will drink more water this year. I will save more money this year. I will read more this year. I will give more this year. I will get gym membership this year. I will go to church more. I

How to take back your health

Published on January 1, 2020 Your health is the most critical asset that you have. There is nothing more important than a healthy, functional body. While you may be excited about the prospect of this new year and what it holds for you, you must factor in taking care of your health. Without your health, you will not be able to achieve your goals. No matter how SMART and noble your goals are, they will be sabotaged by poor health. I am presenting to you a proven system that will help you take back your health in 2020. There are no gimmicks, shortcuts, or any silver bullets. But what I can promise is that this is a proven system that works. All I ask of you is that you try this system and see w

One reason why "FREE" is a Terrible idea

When I was a little child, I heard that there was a country where everything was free. In this country when you need a car, one will be packed in front of your house on the street. All you need to do is get into the car and drive to your destination, then pack the car for the next user to drive. When the time comes for you to go back home there will always be another car for you to drive back home. The other free things included all you can eat restaurants. We were also made to understand that when you went into the shops you took whatever goods you needed without paying anything. As a child, I could not off my mind from the cookies and sweets I will consume if I was in such a country. What

This is what I want for Christmas

This was originally posted on December 25, 2019 This is what I want from you as my Christmas gift. Use some of your social media capital and share this information so that we can have a productive conversation about the malady of superiority and inferiority complex aka “racism.” Christmas is about the greatest gift of all. God’s free gift of His son Jesus Christ. He became all that we can never be so that we can become all that God created us to be. Would you spare some of your social currency and share this message? Thank you and God bless you. I was hoping you could help me to spread the word and be part of the solution. Complaining is good, but solving problems is more significant! Be par

How Badly Do You Want It?

If you want it badly enough you are going to make the necessary changes that will make you successful. You will push yourself harder. You will stay up a little late. You will change the books you read. You will change the people you hang around with. You will eat less. You will drink less. You will not be afraid to be different. You will stop making excuses and blaming others. You will put in your 100%. You will push yourself harder. You will not give up no matter what happens. You will take responsibility for your choices. You will sleep less. You will sleep more. How badly you want is made evident by what you do or do not do. Are you ready and willing to pay the price and be all you were c

How to stop blaming your failures

Without taking responsibility for your actions and inaction you will never achieve your goals. To be successful you must take responsibility. This is not an easy thing to do. That is why you must learn to take responsibility by stopping the blame game. Don’t play the blame! Stop blaming your height. Stop blaming your age. Stop blaming your skin color. Stop blaming your parents. Stop blaming the educational system. Stop blaming your siblings. Stop blaming the past. Stop blaming the present. Stop blaming your feelings. Stop blaming poverty. Stop blaming poor health. Stop blaming your president. Stop blaming the politicians. Stop blaming racism. Stop blaming the devil. Stop blaming corporations

One way to form strong habits

We had to wake up this morning at 4:15 am to get ready for our last half marathon run for 2019. The morning was cold, muggy, and wet, and a part of me wanted so badly to stay under the warm sheets. I did not feel like getting out of bed at all. Everything in me wanted me to stay in bed and sleep some. It is worth noting that we are in winter, and the mornings are cold and uncomfortable. Unfortunately, for this “wimpy” part of me, the habit of running kicked in, and I dragged myself out of bed, put on three layers of clothing and other gear, and headed out of the house. I did not get out of the house this morning because of “strong will power” or pushing myself. What got me out of the house i

A gift that will make you a millionaire in 2020

A happy new year and my prayer for you is that 2020 will be a year in which you will maximize one of the most important resources you have, time. The good news is that you are going to have the same amount of time for this year like everybody else. This will be about 365 days, 8,760 hours, 210,240 minutes, and 5,045,760 seconds. If you were told that each second could be turned into a dollar, you would do all to turn your 5,045,760 into $5,045,760. You will be a millionaire by the end of the year. It is unfortunate that most of the time society has conditioned us to evaluate our millions only in monetary terms. This should not be so! Money is not everything and should not be the only measuri

One way to become LUCKY

In 2018 after many years of procrastination and waiting to become lucky in writing, I realized that luck had forgotten the road to my house and was refusing to show up. I had been waiting and praying for inspiration to knock on my door and help me to write prolifically. I was disappointed because even inspiration missed my address, it seems luck and inspiration had conspired to cause my downfall by sabotaging my writing career before it even started. I kept waiting for the feeling to write and the motivation to sit down and write down all the great ideas that were in my mind, but it was not happening. And I started thinking that writing was not for me. All the negative thoughts that you can

One secret of happiness

What comes in your mind when you see a picture like this? Do you take a minute to let a picture like this have an impact on you or you just skip it? What are some of the stereotypes such a picture enforces? Do you have what it takes to see beyond the distractions in this picture? Being vulnerable is not for the faint-hearted, but you have to learn to be vulnerable if you want your life to inspire, encourage, and bless other people. The pressure to always appear put together, perfect and lacking nothing is real. This type of pressure prevents many from experiencing true joy, peace, and containment. What are you hiding? What are you covering up? While some will focus on the negative stereotype

When Nothing Makes Sense

In 2002 I was sitting in a conference room listening to a speaker from the United States of America delivering a speech. When I heard the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit in my heart, "Eric you are going to America for graduate school." Lord, how is this going to happen? America is too far and expensive. How on earth am I going to raise the 12 million francs that is needed to pay my tuition per year, when I was not even having one hundred thousand in my account? The air ticket to America was about 1.2 million francs. How was I going to come up with such an amount of money? My family was not rich and it was impossible for us to raise the money that I needed to embark on this journey. When I we

One Shortcut to Leadership

Do not let the title of this article mislead you. The longest distance between two points is a shortcut. Beware of shortcuts, especially if you are aspiring to be a leader. A leader that desires other people to follow you. There are many different definitions of what leadership is and who a leader is. The question has always been the following. Are all born leaders and should all lead? When you get a proper definition of leadership these questions will answer themselves. According to John Maxwell, “Leadership is influence nothing more nothing less.” The first person you must lead is you. If you do not lead yourself, nobody is going to follow you. We know that one of the greatest traits of ex
